Description
Gabapentin is a little different than other anticonvulsants. Unlike benzodiazepines and barbiturates, gabapentin does not directly target the GABA receptor. Instead, it acts on multiple pathways in the brain. One of its main actions involves binding to the α2δ subunit of voltage-dependent calcium channels. This binding blocks calcium from entering neurons, ultimately reducing the release of neurotransmitters.
