Uses
Atropine is utilized for the following therapeutic indications:
- Treatment of bradycardia (slow heart rate)
- Management of organophosphate poisoning
- Preoperative reduction of salivation and respiratory secretions
- Prevention of vagal reflexes during surgery
- Treatment of certain types of heart block
- Support for atropine-induced mydriasis (pupil dilation) in eye examinations
- Management of muscarinic symptoms in poisoning or overdose situations
- Use as an adjunct in the treatment of bronchospasm in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
