A proton-pump inhibitor that inhibits the secretion of gastric acid by irreversibly blocking the enzyme system of hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase

Proton-pump inhibitors

Used to treat:

• conditions with too much gastric acid
• gastric and duodenal ulcers
• erosive esophagitis
• GERD
• indigestion, heartburn and acid reflux
• zollinger-ellison syndrome

To be taken as per doctor’s prescription

Seek medical attention in case of overdosing. Signs include passing out and trouble breathing

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don’t remember missing the dose, don’t double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

Take with a glass of water as per doctor’s instructions. Usually taken at least 30 minutes before meals

Do not use if:

• hypersensitive to omeprazole
• extreme kidney disease
• also taking HIV medicines
• you have breathing problems

Side effects include:

• nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
• headaches
• fever
• cold symptoms

Practice caution in case of:

• less urination frequency than normal as it affects the kidneys
• new or worsening symptoms of lupus. Contact a doctor immediately
• bone issues as it reduces calcium absorption after long term use

Do not use in case you are already using:

• digoxin
• clopidogrel
• methotrexate
• water pills
• carbamazepine
• phenytoin
