Expert Advice
- Take with or without meals.
- Shake oral suspension vigorously for 5-10 seconds before intake. If a chewable tablet is taken, chew thoroughly before swallowing
- If antacid is to be taken, wait 30 to 60 minutes after taking famotidine.
- Contact prescriber if there is acute headache, unrelieved constipation (difficulty in passing stool) or diarrhea (watery stools), palpitations (feeling of heart beating fast, black tarry stools, abdominal pain, rash, worsening of condition, or recurrence of symptoms after therapy is completed.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking during therapy.
Side Effects
Headache, dizziness, constipation (difficulty in passing stool), diarrhea (watery stools), nausea, rash, GI upset, abdominal discomfort, anorexia (eating disorder), fatigue, liver enzyme abnormalities, angioedema, arthralgia (joint pain), muscle cramp are some of its side effects.
